Amazing Grace
Harry Secombe is known throughout the English-speaking world as one of the three comedic geniuses that made up The Goons, the most innovative and influential comedy team ever to come to us over the radio.
He is also one of the great Welsh tenors, whose voice endeared him to millions over a thirty-year career. In 1963 he was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his services to drama and in 1981 he became Sir Harry Secombe, when he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
In 1983 Sir Harry became the host of Highway, a weekly TV Christian programme that ran for nearly ten years, and in 1992 he took the reins as arguably the best-loved presenter of Songs of Praise on BBC TV.
The songs on this album were recorded in Australia in the early 1980s and reflect Sir Harry Secombe’s deep commitment to Christianity and his love of life.
