"Imagine the 'hooks' from a collection of well-known classical pieces laid over a disco beat." That was the unlikely premise that led to one of the most memorable music phenomena of the 20th century – Hooked On Classics.
The year was 1981, when producers Don Reedman and Jeff Jarratt commissioned ex-Electric Light Orchestra arranger Louis Clark to conduct the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, performing a series of Classical medleys. The result was Hooked On Classics, a top-selling single and a record-breaking LP, which received a Grammy Award nomination and went on to sell in excess of 15 million copies worldwide.
The original album inspired a whole series of Hooked On LPs, covering just about every musical type, from Hooked On Country to Hooked On The Beatles, but the jewels in the crown are still the three volumes of Hooked On Classics, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Louis Clark.
We take great pleasure, therefore, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the issue of the original Hooked On Classics, in presenting this very special 3CD set.
